On May 17th, Sea Burial and Ecological Burial Exchange takes place in Xiangan Cemetery, Chenghai District, Shantou City. The event is organized by Chenghai District Civil Affairs Bureau and Chenghai District Xiang'an Enterprise Development Co., Ltd. under the guidance of Guangdong Funeral Association and Shantou Civil Affairs Bureau, with the theme of Green, Ecology, Humanities and Technology. The attendants include Li Jianhua, President of China Funeral Association, Ling Bingjian, president of Guangdong Funeral Association, Mei Xiangyang, director of the Funeral Management Office of Guangzhou Municipal Civil Affairs Bureau, as well as other leaders from Shantou Civil Affairs Bureau, Chenghai District Government and Chenghai District Civil Affairs Bureau.
The event witnessed the opening ceremony of the Chenghai Sea Burial Monument and the commissioning ceremony of the Sea Burial Ecological Memorial Park. Since 1998, Chenghai District of Shantou City has fully implemented the funeral reform, vigorously promoted sea scattering, introduced preferential measures for sea scattering, and provided free sea burial services. The measures have been increasingly accepted by local people. Up to 2018, the rate of sea scattering cases in Chenghai District has reached 70%, and it has become the highlight of Chenghai funeral reform.
The guests visit the flower burial ceremony, the intelligent management system and the Internet Funeral Management platform, and exchang ideas on the practice and experience of green burial, land-saving burial. In the afternoon, the guests visit the Chenghai Sea Burial Pier to learn about the sea burial process and the sea burial culture. They highly compliment the sea burial promotion there. Leaders from Civil Affairs Bureau of the District and of the City, and Funeral Association have participated in the event.
